The Fundamentals of Active Stretching

with David Moll

Three Sundays, December 7th, 14th and 21st, 12:00-1:30 PST
Online and in Person in Ukiah, California

Active stretching integrates attention and interest with physical engagement. In this class series, we'll explore how your body is designed to move efficiently in real-world activities through attentive, functional movement.

By breaking down specific motions, we'll explore the different anatomical structures involved in mobility—nerve tissue, ligaments, tendons, joints, and muscles. Each responding differently and working together as a complex orchestra tuned to how you move through the world.

Understanding these anatomical relationships is key to developing not just flexibility, but also strength and agility. Functional movement requires all three working in harmony: the elasticity to lengthen, the stability to control, and the responsiveness to adapt.

We'll also turn our attention into your unique anatomy and movement patterns. While our bodies share similar structures, each of us has a distinct fingerprint of gait, mobility, strength, flexibility, and agility.

The only prerequisite? You, and your body. Whether you want to feel more open, build functional strength, move with more agility, or simply understand your anatomy better, this course is for you.

This three-part series covers:

  • Identifying your range of motion and functional movement patterns

  • Discovering the edge of your stretch and how to increase attentive flexibility

  • How to engage and release connective tissue

  • Distinguishing between nerves, muscles, tendons, and ligaments through anatomical awareness

  • Exploring the oblique angles throughout your body

  • Building strength and agility through intelligent, active stretching

David Moll has been researching and practicing the art of attention since the late 1970s. His work bridges the essential connection between mind and body, bringing playful wisdom and accessible, research-informed techniques that you can apply both as you explore in the classroom and in your day-to-day life.

What began as childhood curiosity has evolved into a lifetime devoted to understanding how the human body heals, responds, and adapts through focused attention. David has had a private bodywork practice since 1990 working with individuals and groups focused on pain management and the art of feeling good.
